Healthy livestock support household income, food supply and livelihoods across Uganda. Veterinary medicines are one part of animal-health care, alongside prevention, good husbandry, diagnosis and advice from trained professionals.
Producing veterinary pharmaceuticals in Uganda can build local manufacturing skills and add capacity to the supply chain. Alfasan Uganda’s factory in Kampala Industrial and Business Park was established for the manufacture of veterinary medicines and other animal-health products.
Local manufacturing works best as part of a responsible system: products must meet applicable quality requirements, reach farmers through appropriate channels and be used with professional guidance. Farmers should consult a veterinarian or qualified animal-health worker when animals are unwell.
