On 24 June 2024, Makerere University's Anti-Tick Vaccine Project Committee visited Alfasan Uganda in Namanve to review progress in establishing the vaccine production line. Makerere reported that the visit included discussions and a tour of the facility, including production areas, laboratories, raw-material storage, and packaging rooms.
Quality and collaboration
The visit provided an opportunity for the university project team and the manufacturer to review progress together. Makerere's account also highlighted the need for sustainable energy and water sources to support operations, an important reminder that responsible manufacturing depends on reliable, well-managed resources.
The vaccine remains a research and development effort. Further clinical evaluation and regulatory steps are required before any claims about availability or impact can be made.
